Abigail was David’s second wife who is believed to be a woman of great beauty and intelligence, she counsels David and prophesied David’s kingship in her reports.
She was the wife of Nabal, an influential man in Southern Judah.

David met Abigail while on the run from Saul’s sword. He had met with Nabal who refused to help David and his men but rather hurled insults at the future King David.

Abigail, by virtue of her intelligence and as a woman who had some level of faith in the prophesy of David’s soon-to-come kingship understood the implications of her husband’s action and thus took a diplomatic step to stop David from taking drastic steps against Nabal.

According to the narration in 1st Samuel, She sent David loads of food and urged him not to yield to any thought of revenge he had against Nabal for vengeance was on the Lord.
Nabal died a few days later and David having seen the level of faith and intelligence exhibited by Abigail, coupled with her beauty, decided to take her as his second wife.
David was married to Michal, the daughter of Saul and ahinoam but Saul had remarried her to Palti the son of Laish sometime after David went into hiding.
Abigail had a son for David (David’s second son) who is listed in the book of chronicles as Daniel, Chileab in the book of Samuel.
Along with Miriam, Deborah, Hannah, Sarah, Huldah, and Esther; Abigail makes the list as a one of the seven Jewish female prophets in the bible.
